Celebrate Shepherdstown Mural

Project Type

Mural

Date

April 2024

Location

Shepherdstown, WV.

In 2024, I acted as the lead painter for the exterior mural project entitled "Celebrate Shepherdstown" under art director Sonya Evanisko. I additionally worked with designer Heather Crosby and sign sculptor and painter Shane Harris.
I worked alongside and helped to direct eleven students at Shepherd University over the duration of the project, which we installed on May 6th, 2024.
For the approach to the design, Sonya and Heather had design sessions which I attended and we discussed including historical elements and celebratory imagery which would honor the past while adding fresh excitement to the space, creating a narrative focusing on the town's continued sense of ingenuity in the present day. I aided the director and designer in the creation of various designs and mockups as they settled on rich, bright blues and glowing golds as well as created the
design for the boat, a reference to resident James Rumsey.
As lead painter, I painted the water, sky, mountains, some of the flora, fireworks, the steamboat, abstract linework, stars, clouds, and the sun. I truly enjoyed working with the students, and it was a pleasure to watch their portions of the project come to life.
