Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Public Library
Project type
Mural
Date
May 2026
Location
Harpers Ferry
We created this small scale mural to support the Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Public Library in collaboration with two preteen girl scouts. We chose to thematically represent the girl scouts' project "Protecting Nature from Pollution with Public Art" by highlighting species native to Appalachia and pictorially representing the Shenandoah River. We included the Great Blue Heron, bluebell flowers, the American Goldfinch, the twelve spotted skimmer, and the ebony jewel wing dragonfly. We used bright pinks and blues to create a sense of idealism, giving the water a sense of purity and warmth. The mural also has a QR code that links to a website the girl scouts created that provides information on pollution prevention. We took one work week to complete the mural, and we were delighted to collaborate with the library staff.
